It is always a safe bet to create a backup of
your Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 operating system just in case something
goes wrong and you would like to have your Windows OS back to the way it
was. The user needs to be informed about the fact that they
will not be able to do a data backup or recovery in case of an operating system
crash.
Backing up a Windows 8 laptop includes creating
its system image and saving it on a different volume of the hard drive, or on a
different hard drive altogether. Microsoft chose to upgrade the Backup and
Restore feature that was a part of Windows 7 and introduced a new backup tool
for Windows 8.

when running certain system programs. If you type in 'restore' on the Start
Screen, you will see a few options pop up. I’ll tell you to create an
image backup, and how to restore it to an unbootable drive, in both windows 8 system restore.
This doesn’t have to be a new USB hard drive,
however it does need to have enough space to back up all the information that
you’re looking to automatically save in an emergency. ShadowMaker makes
me very happy. Being available in a free version that has all the features the
average user needs makes me even happier.
The free version of ShadowMaker performs
incremental backups, which backs up any changes since your last backup.
The user can update the basic version to the premium version by paying the
applicable fee. You will need to purge any orphaned Shadow Copies
from your protected machine, and disable the service to avoid future conflicts.
This article details how to backup windows 8 by Shadow Copies.
